18th century thatched cottage renovation

This project consisted of demolition of the existing garage & extension whilst protecting the existing 18th century thatched cottage.  To build a 3 bedroom single story extension with two new bathrooms, kitchen/dining room, kids den, study & utility.  Full renovation of existing thatched property. The main objective was to retain the character of the cottage and contrast with light, modern extension beyond.

This project is a treasure chest of outstanding features and was an absolute pleasure working with such fantastic designs and ideas.  This property is 300 y/o with a beautiful thatched roof.  This project was fitted with a ground source heat pump resulting in no gas required to the property, there is an MVHR system installed.  The new extension is clad with black Siberian larch and fully knapped field flint and dark mortar which really compliments the exiting thatched cottage.  The cinema room boasts a hidden cinema screen that comes down from the ceiling using a remote control.  All blinds are electric and all electrics are state of the art Lutron fittings.  The cottage toilet has been fitted with a heated wall.  The mezzanine children’s play den has been fitted with a modern glass balustrade and LED strip lights built into the wall and plastered to create futuristic lighting.  The main bathroom has an iroko clad cistern wall making it an outstanding focal point of the property.  The study is fitted with bespoke handmade furniture made in house.  Light floods through this property through the roof lights & vast patio doors.

Note from the Client:
“Highly recommended – a great team to work with.
We are so pleased that we chose Bespoke Living to build us a modern extension onto the back of our existing 300 year old thatched cottage. Throughout the 10 month project they were a pleasure to have on site, always polite, excellent at communicating and nothing was too much trouble. The whole team have a real can do attitude and were quick to escalate any issues and kept us fully informed of any problems along the way. The site was tidied at the end of every day, and was managed very well.
Miraculously, the project finished pretty much on time, despite Covid shutting down most of the building suppliers half way through the project – Dan and Jon worked many extra hours trying to source materials from all over the country, and when most other sites shut down, we were able to continue. This speaks volumes about their passion for what they do, and their drive to deliver on time.

Jon and Dan are really passionate about giving the customer their dream home, and the high level of finish has been commented on by friends and other tradesmen who have visited the house. Laura is extremely efficient, and it gave us great confidence to have a qualified accountant on the team for a project of this size.
If you are looking for honest, reliable and competent builders who are a pleasure to have around, look no further!”
